My name is Thy and I was born in the south of Vietnam in a place called Saigon, at that time it was the capital of the country and Saigon was known world wide as the Pearl of the Far East, famous for it’s hospitality and its food.

pearlEarly in 1970 my father lost his job, and because of the war he was unable to feed his family, so my mother started selling food on the streets around where we lived.

I was just seven years old and my mother had me and my sisters working with her selling and ham and vegetable  sandwiches (Banh mi).  I went to school in the mornings,  spent the rest of the day selling food,  my evenings were spent  with my mother and sisters, learning to cook and making the next days meals to sell.
